{About}
We were asked for sweet woodruff so often that we now grow it. Mythical thug for a shady spot where it can spread and display its fragrant white flowers in Spring. Will tolerate dry soils. It was used most effectively as ground cover in a small, shady courtyard show garden at Chelsea 2012, and can be seen at Mottisfont forming a wonderful ground cover under a fig tree.
{Cultivation}
Galium will spread quite vigorously. So a plant that will survive in difficult situations.

Geranium x cantabrigiense 'St Ola'

One of the very few evergreen Geraniums for the woodland garden. Short growing it forms a ground cover with pure white flowers over most of the Summer. A hybrid raised by Alan Bremnar in the Orkneys.

Once established it's very tolerant of soils that dry out in Summer in shade.

Bluish pearly pink flowers. A nice form of this woodland toughy from the Old Rectory, Burghfield. Will seed around to a certain extent and thrive in pretty much the driest position. An incredibly useful Geranium, a great candidate for underplanting in shaded and wooded spots.

Alchemilla mollis AGM

Alchemilla mollis AGM

5.30 (2 or fewer items) 4.95 (3 or more items)

Common as muck but brilliant for a tough spot. Plumes of lime green/yellow flowers in Summer. Wonderful for flower arranging and the leaves look magical with water droplets sitting on them. Very dry shade tolerant and resistant to deer and rabbits, plus the occasional football or foot.

Often used at the front of borders and complementing other flowering perennials (it looks stunning when planted with Geranium 'Rozanne'), Alchemilla can also be used most effectively to create an area of differing foliage colours and textures - it combines beautifully with small to medium sized ferns.

It will mildly seed around but it is just too useful to ignore!

{Description}
Sweet Cicely, fully deciduous. In Spring it produces beautiful soft, hairy, pale green leaves, and then later small heads of cow parsley type flowers. Brushing past it releases the sweet aniseed scent, and it's often used in the preparation of stewed fruit to reduce the amount of sugar needed. A must for the herb or wild garden.
{Cultivation}
Grows well in dry shade, though best with semi-shade.
